The key skill that I learned at McDonald’s and continue to use today is that of “Time Management” – Gary Cannalte

Currently I am Chief Meteorologist at WISC-TV (CBS affiliate) in Madison, WI. I worked at the Schaumburg, IL (Golf Road) McDonald’s as crew from September, 1977-November, 1983 and then as an assistant manager for two company owned restaurants from December, 1983- July, 1988

The key skill that I learned at McDonald’s and continue to use today is that of “Time Management”. As a manager, you had to be able to run a shift while prioritizing your time and skills to make the shift as productive as possible. You had to anticipate what might happen rather than reacting to what was happening. In my job as a television meteorologist, when dealing with severe and changing weather, you have to be able to run the coverage and make sure that your communication to the public is on top of the situation rather than reacting to what is happening.
